| For years, a war has been waged against the chiropractic profession by the American Medical Association. We had become to popular with the American public. The following is a brief synopsis of the Federal Injunction brought against the AMA in 1987. We will be adding more information on this subject in the next few weeks. | |||||
| A PERMANENT INJUNCTION ORDER AGAINST THE AMA was set by Federal Judge Susan Getzendanner. The federal court had conducted a lengthy trial in May and June in 1987. In a 101 page decision, she wrote that the American Medical Association and its members had participated in a conspiracy against the chiropractic profession.
In 1963, the AMA had determined that the chiropractic profession was growing too rapidly and at that point they determined to eliminate it. One of the prinicipal means used by the AMA to achieve its goal was to make it unethical for medical physicians to professionally associate with chiropractors. The AMAs purpose was to prevent medical physicians from referring patients to chiropractors and accepting referrals from chiropractors, to prevent chiropractors from obtaining access to hospital diagnostic services and membership on hospital medical staffs, to prevent medical physicians from teaching at chiropractic colleges or engaging in any joint research and to prevent any cooperation between the two groups in the delivery of health care services. |
